Diet and Habitat

Diet

Capybaras are herbivores, meaning that they only eat plant matter. When available, they will graze on living grass, reeds, or bushes. When there is nothing to graze on, they will eat squashes and other large vegetables. Capybaras also engage in coprophagy (eating their own poop!) to get extra nutrients and beneficial bacteria.

Habitat

Capybaras are native to Central and South America. They are semi aquatic, and reqiure water to live. They can be found on river banks swamps, or marshes , and spend most of their time in the water. Capybaras are kept in captivity, and fair well as long as they are provided a body of water. Due to urbanization in their natural habitats, capybaras are also sometimes seen invading residential neighborhoods.
